Second session of the ENU International Model United Nations

Today, on 21st of June 2018 the 2nd session of the ENU international Model United Nations were officially opened.

The opening ceremony was attended by Vice-rector for international relations and innovation of  Gumilyov Eurasian National University Baubek Somzhurek, Director of youth policy Department of the Ministry of religious Affairs and civil society of Kazakhstan Askhat Oralov, the representative of the Department of multilateral cooperation Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Rakhmetov,  the representative of UNICEF Elvira Begisheva, the representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation – Tom Halman, Ambassador of South Africa to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan Mrs. Keitumetse.

The ceremony were opened with the video message from US Secretary – General Antonio Guterres and the welcoming speech  of Vice-rector for international relations and innovation of  Gumilyov Eurasian National University Baubek Somzhurek. One of the noticeable speech has been told by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary  of the Republic of South Africa to Republics of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan – H.E. Ms. Keitumetsi S.T. Matthews. In her speech she pointed out the current political situation in the South Africa Republic as a continuation of Nelson Mandela’s policy and diplomacy and regarded his legacy as a solid contribution into African diplomacy.

Also the case of nuclear weapon, international safety, multinational companies were pointed out by Resident Representative of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Kazakhstan -  mr. Thomas Helm. He argued about a compromising method of the policy in  certain countries  as solution of the international conflicts. Hence he told about the 21st centuries’ most urgent problems worldwide, such as: migration, environmental issues, refugees crises in Europe.

In the end of the ceremony member of the host team a  Secretary –General Dung Nguyen Trung  thanked all the audience for their time and attention and expressed his good wish on the further fruitful collaboration.

The meetings will take place from 21st till 24th of June, whereas different topics is going to be discussed.

This event is held thanks to the close-knit work of the Department of International Relations, the Faculty of International Relations and the Department of International Cooperation of Gulmilyov Eurasian National University.
