Educational Event "On Combating Corruption"

An educational event "On Combating Corruption" was held at the Foreign Languages Department ​​of the Faculty of International Relations in an online format on November 27, 2021. It was organized by the senior lecturer Ergalieva Kunsulu Ongarovna.

The purpose of the event was to form students' negative attitude towards corruption practices and the ability to resist corruption.

Today, the concept of corruption has become widespread throughout the world. In connection with the increased facts of corruption all over the world as well as in our country, the topic of combating corruption has become relevant, the states have faced the following questions: What is corruption? How to fight with it? How to defeat corruption? Within the framework of this concept, various programs and laws are being developed to prevent this negative element.

Corruption is considered as one of the most complex problems in the world. The formation of moral and ideological foundations in society is significantly influenced by the negative phenomenon of corruption crimes. The Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan establishes criminal liability for fighting corruption.

 During the event, students got acquainted with the legislative development of anti-corruption activities in Kazakhstan and in our university, with the history of the fight against corruption in our country, with the main types of corruption and the principles of combating corruption, with the activities of the anti-corruption project office "Adep", which was opened in 2019 with the help of the Rector of the University and Olzhas Bektenov, the First Deputy Chairman of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Combating Corruption. The main attention was paid to the anti-corruption activities of the University and the Faculty of International Relations.

After watching the presentation "On Combating Corruption", the participants answered a number of questions about the content of the presented materials. Students expressed their views on the fight against corruption with genuine interest.

A video about combating corruption was showed during the event; it was prepared by Dildabaeva Merey, who is the fourth-year student of the specialty "International Relations". The video highlighted the experiences of fighting corruption in Singapore and Sweden, which were able to successfully resist corruption, ranking fourth and first respectively in the Corruption Perception Index in 2020, published by Transparency International recently.

As part of the fight against corruption at the university and, in particular, at the Faculty of International Relations, students and lecturers meet with representatives of law enforcement agencies, anonymous mail boxes, anonymous mail boxes of the rector, vice-rector are installed in the buildings of the university, social polls and questionnaires and events are organized among students for fighting against corruption.

The event was attended by Zhiembay Bibigul Saurovna, the deputy dean for work with students, all the lecturers from the department, who are headed by Meyrambekova Lyazat Kasymovna, PhD doctor, as well as third-year students of the specialties "international relations" and "regional studies" from the Faculty of International Relations. The final speech was made by the Deputy Dean of the Faculty Zhiembay Bibigul Saurovna and the senior lecturer Aigul Kadyskyzy, who is responsible for educational work in the Foreign Languages Department. They noted the relevance of the topic and the useful information for students, and also thanked their colleague Ergalieva K.O. for her interesting event.
