May 31, 2022 Senior Lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages Natalya Milovanova held a methodological webinar "Learner autonomy and ways of its development in the lessons of a foreign language."

The webinar presented the definitions of the concept of "learner autonomy", adopted in the research literature, the constituent elements of this concept, the stages of its development. Interest in the problem of students' responsibility for their progress and learning outcomes arose in the 1970s, when a transition began from the traditional teacher-centered model, to the student-centered model. More autonomous learners who take conscious responsibility for their learning have been shown to make more progress. The teacher can and should promote the development of the autonomy of his students, using various metacognitive strategies and techniques.
