Open lecture “The Leader of the XXI century”
On February 20, 2019, an open lecture called “The Leader of the XXI Century” was held in the room 104 of the Faculty of Social Sciences for the first-year students of Sociology department.
The lesson was conducted by the senior teacher of the Foreign Languages Department of the Faculty of International Relations Kulahmetova Zh.T.
The purpose of the lesson was to revise the topic "Education". The teacher applied a non-standard approach to conducting the lesson in the format of an intellectual game “The Leader of the XXI century”. Tasks were divided into 6 stages:
1. Baiga,
2. kokpar
3. polyglot,
4. live questions
5. what if ...
6. speaker.
At the “polyglot” stage, students were offered proverbs and sayings with missing words, which they were supposed to translate in different languages. At the "speaker" stage they were expected to demonstrate their oratory skills. At the “live questions” stage, the students answered questions from foreign professors which had previously been recorded on a video camera.
This format of classes allowed the teacher to involve each student of the group in the educational process, enabling them to demonstrate their speaking skills, the ability to stand for their point of view, to make argumentative statements on problem situations.
The students coped well with all the tasks, showing good knowledge of the language. The invited teachers noted students’ high motivation to learn English and the professionalism of the teacher.
