Department of foreign languages

The Department of Foreign Languages is one of the oldest departments in the Faculty of International Relations. Organized on September 1, 2001 at the Institute of International Relations, for 19 years it has been successfully functioning at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian University.

The initiator of the department was Professor M.Abdirov, the first director of the Institute of International Relations. Since 2001, the department was headed by associate professor Kashakbayeva L.I. (2001-2004), senior lecturer Smolina L.I. (2004–2005), associate professor N. Savenkova (2005-2007). From 2007 to 2018, for 11 years, the department had been managed by the candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor Anna Yessengaliyeva. In 2018-2019 academic year the chief of the deprtmant was PhD, acting Associate Professor Meirambekova L.K. Then the management of the department was taken over by the candidate of pedagogical sciences, Kaliyeva Assel. 

Currently, the head of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of International Relations is PhD, acting Associate Professor Lyazat Meirambekova.

The department teaches basic, core and elective disciplines of the specialties “International Relations”, “Regional Studies”, “Turkic Studies”, “Political Science”, “Journalism”, “Law”, “International Law”, and other specialties of the Faculty of International Relations, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science, as well as the Law Faculty and the Faculty of History.

In the learning process, students have the opportunity to study five foreign languages: English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, as well as get acquainted with the cultural traditions and customs of the countries of the language under study.

The Department of Foreign Languages ​​regularly carries out an upgrade of academic modules taking into account modern international trends in the field of teaching foreign languages. Our lecturers apply innovative educational technologies of blended learning, content and language integrated learning (CLIL) and digital visualization.

 

Our lecturers’ technical skills and professional flexibility have helped adapt smoothly to new realities and distance learning during the global Coronavirus pandemic. In addition to communication messengers, our lecturers used distance learning systems of various platforms and vendors to ensure a stable, continuous educational process, including the Platonus Automated Information System, ZOOM, Microsoft Teams, Quizlet and Google classroom services.
