Russian political scientists visited the L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University

On December 7, 2021, Russian political scientists – Vladimir Avatkov, Doctor of Political Science, Director of the Center for Oriental Studies and Intercultural Communication, Associate Professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Senior Researcher at IMEMO RAS, and Dmitry Yegorchenkov, Director of the Institute for Strategic Studies and Forecasts of RUDN University – visited the Faculty of International Relations L.N. Gumilyov ENU.

During the meeting with the Dean of the Faculty, Miras Kossybaev and the Head of the Department of International Relations Dana Akhmedyanova, the scientific interests of both sides and the prospects for bilateral academic cooperation were discussed.

After the meeting, a guest lecture was held for the faculty members and students on Turkeys foreign policy: the post-Soviet space and Russias interests and Cultural sympathy: youth and common narratives for the future.

V.A.Avatkov highlighted the foreign policy of Turkey, touching upon the problems of the regional (the Middle East, the Arab East, Central Asia) and global levels, the priorities and position of Russia on major international issues, and issues of Eurasian integration.

D.A.Yegorchenkov touched upon the issues of political communication, ideology, the creation of meanings in politics, the interpretation of 'soft power' on the world stage, which are especially relevant at the present stage, emphasizing the importance of the concept of mixing and borrowing ideas as the most acceptable for making sense (for example, the idea of integration).

After the meeting, a guest lecture was held for the faculty members and students on Turkeys foreign policy: the post-Soviet space and Russias interests and Cultural sympathy: youth and common narratives for the future. Both lectures attracted the interest of the participants and engendered lively discussions.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants expressed their willingness to continue mutually advantageous cooperation.
