On February 9, 2019 the teachers of the Confucius Institute in Astana held an event marking the Chinese New Year within the frame of the Chinese language club of ENU. Guest participants of the event included Associate professor of the Department of   Chinese philology G. Akhmetbek and faculty members such as A.K. Nuriddenova, E.Duisenkozha and A. Tolkynkhan and B.A. students of the Oriental Studies Department.

During the event the teachers of the Confucius Institute in Astana presented valuable information on “Chunjie” celebrations, the difference of traditions in the northern and southern parts of China in celebrating the new year in particular. In order to show some specific traditions they used video materials and pictures. Students demonstrated a great interest on this topic and posed insightful questions. They also got to learn a new vocabulary which included the following Chinese characters 春节,除夕,红包, etc. The event lasted for two hours during which the participants learned the techniques of Chinese calligraphy. Moreover, they tried cutting the Chinese new year ornaments. At the end of event students shared their impressions and expressed that they will look forward to attending similar events.
