International cooperation

Over the years, the department has established links with the Embassies of many countries, among which are those of the United States, Spain, Italy, France, Germany that provide cultural evenings of cinema and poetry for students of the faculty. Every year, a week of foreign languages ​​is organized, within the framework of which seminars, olympiads, brain rings, student conferences, poster competitions are held.

 

The department also cooperates with other institutions of the above-mentioned countries, such as the French Alliance, the British Council, Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation MAEC-AECID, the University of Cadiz (Spain), University for foreigners in Siena (Italy), Computen University (Madrid), Munich University, the Bavarian National Library (Munich), the National Library of the Principality of Andorra (Luxembourg), the Dutch Language Society (Amsterdam), the University of Grinswald (Germany).

 

On March 12, 2015, the Center for Spanish Language named after Rui Gonzalez de Clavijo, a famous Spanish diplomat and traveler, was opened at the Foreign Languages ​​Department of the Faculty of International Relations.

 

Since its opening, the center has become a hub of international events: it hosts annual guest lectures by senior representatives of the Embassy of Spain, scientific and methodological seminars of academicians from Spain, I and II Congress of Spanish language lecturers in Central Asia, international scientific and methodological video conference with the University of Cadiz under the G-Global platform, and the international Spanish language and culture competition. The official DELE international Spanish language exam is annually held under the auspices of the center with the participation of foreign accredited examiners.

 

        Invited foreign teachers - native speakers from Spain and Italy work at the department on a permanent basis. In 2021-22 academic year Alvaro Marcos Marcos (Spain), Maria Paola Gonzalez Sepulveda (Spain), Diego Gabriel Amado Garcia (Spain), Giulio Scherbo (Italy) work at the department.

In January 2019, in order to promote the Romanian language and culturethe Embassy of Romania fully equipped room 231 with Romanian language literature.

By the initiative of the Italian Embassy, the Italian Language and Culture Center was opened in June 2019. The department held the international conference “Leonardo Da Vinci and the Atlantic Code: Influence in Central Asia” in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Kazakhstan and the Ambrosian Library in Milan on May 22, 2019. Among the participants were Yerlan Sydykov, rector of L.N. Gumilyov ENU and the delegation of the Italian Embassy represented by Pasquale D’Avino, the Ambassador of Italy to Kazakhstan and Italian professors Edoardo Canetta and Alberto Rocca. An exhibition of Leonardo Da Vinci’s paintings was open to public as a part of the conference. 

On November 26, 2021, the International Scientific and Practical Online Conference "Foreign Languages ​​in Asian Countries: Teaching Experience and Innovation" was held, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The conference was held within the framework of cooperation between L.N. Gumilyov ENU with the Association of Asian Universities, which includes 27 universities of the CIS and other Asian countries. More than 60 scientists and specialists from universities and educational institutions of different countries, such as the Middle East Technical University (Turkey), St. Petersburg State University (Russia), Baku Slavic University (Azerbaijan), Kyrgyz International University (Kyrgyzstan), Jacques Chirac Center in Rabat (Morocco), Center for Eastern Europe and Central Asia in Cadiz (Spain), Nazarbayev University (Kazakhstan) and others took part in this conference.
