The Chinese language club has celebrated Nauryz at the Department of Oriental Studies

On 16th of March 2018, the Chinese language club of the Department of Oriental Studies has organized a cultural event titled “Welcome, Nauryz”, which was devoted to the traditional holiday of  Nauryz.

    This event has started with the ceremony of performing “shashu” and the congratulatory speech by the Head of the Department. Further, the members of the Chinese club commenced their cultural program. This event has been hosted both in Kazakh and Chinese languages by the students, who show great interest in learning Chinese language.

   During this cultural event students played the Kazakh national musical instrument – Dombyra – both solo and within the group performance. Moreover, some students sang a song composed by Kazakh national poet – Abay Kunanbayev – “Zhelsiz tunde zharyk ai” which translates as “Through Windless Night The Glinting Moon” and have received a very warm round of applause. In order to increase the interest of the audience, the hosts have engaged the public in a pop-quiz, thus testing their knowledge on the Kazakh proverbs. The most active participants of the quiz have received various prizes.

   Furthermore, students have performed Kazakh national dance “Kamazhai”. Therefore, this cultural event which had an extremely festive atmosphere, was continued in the form of a holiday buffet that contained Kazakh traditional dishes.
